2011 Social Media Wish List

social media in 2011How will you improve your social media efforts in 2011 to sky rocket your blog or brand into a digitally known success? For example, I plan to spend 2-hours in the early AM, 1-hr in the afternoon and 2-hours in the evening catching up on news in the digital world, how and if I can put it into practice and continue to just research emerging platforms and ideas in the social space.

What tools do you need to accomplish these goals? Compile a wish list of all the social media platforms, devices and software you need to achieve this.  Some of the items on my wish list are social tools I already use but I need to improve my frequency and relevancy on how I use them.

Here’s whats on my 2011 Social Media Wish List:

Twitter

This year I got into a horrible habit of retweeting tweets rather than posting original content. I want to study how top tweeters get over 200 clicks within minutes or hundreds if not thousands of retweets. I know the headline makes a huge difference and being a guiding light makes a huge difference but the little people have more unbiased power in their blog posts if you asked me.

Facebook

My Facebook account is for personal use and not professional and I would like to keep it that way. I recently just started a Facebook page for the Bloggers Soiree but I am contemplating creating a fan page for Desi’s Random Thoughts but not sure just yet. I don’t know what value I can offer on a DRT fan page just yet but I will think it over and try to produce just that. If you’re not offering value your social media efforts need some reworking! Remember value should be a top priority for all your social media efforts.

LinkedIn

The only time I log into LinkedIn is to accept friend invitations, check out groups, update my profile, and research people. This year I will check out all the features LinkedIn Groups has to offer, upload my resume, invite relevant people into my network, join in on discussions, and possibly create a group for DRT and the Bloggers SoireeThe best value of this platform is LinkedIn Groups. I use them but am I effectively using them? No. So my goal for 2011 is to learn the best use of this platform.

YouTube

I will vlog in 2011. Enough said! Vlogging will be rolled out gradually between May-September as a trial period. We’ll see how it goes.

Social Bookmarking Sites

I use Digg, Mixx, Del.cio.us, and StumbleUpon but I’m not sure if I see the value in the sites. I do share and bookmark other content besides my own but I never really feel the need to use these sites. According to a new study, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are the networks of choice. StumbleUpon and YouTube round out the top 5 but the top 3 networks will be my main focus in 2011.

Overall, my goal is to cut back and streamline my social media efforts instead of being all over the place because 44% of the traffic to my website is direct traffic and 30% is referring traffic from sites like Facebook and Twitter and  search engine traffic is 26%.

I do not plan on using  MySpace, Flickr (I use PhotoBucket), Tumblr, Posterous (I have an account but will delete), and other irrelevant social networking sites. If anything I will explore social media monitoring sites in 2010. And delete accounts I don’t need.

How are you going to streamline your social media efforts in 2011 and whats on your wish list?

Sounds like a good wish list. I look forward to your vlogs, and wish to do some of my own as well.
